  • What tool you used to create the artifact and why you chose it.
  • The tool I used to create my summary of learning was Microsoft power point. I chose this because it is a basic computer tool that every student and teacher must learn how to manipulate. This is a program that almost every employer will ask people who are interviewing if they know how to use it. I think it is a very important tool for students to learn how to run as they get older.
  • What were your biggest take-aways from #IEA319.
  • My biggest take away was that art is everywhere. I know it sounds cliche, but in all honesty I did not realize how much a person actually uses art in their day to day life. As a grown up you do not give a second thought to how you learned your colors or your shapes. you just kind of know them. But you had to start somewhere. Every time you post a photo to facebook or instagram and you edit it, you are using art. Every time that you create a new blog post or twitter post over a certain topic you are expressing art in its simplest form.
  • How you plan to incorporate integrated expressive arts in your future classroom.
  • I plan to use many of the websites and tools that were given to us in this class. I love science and art and I struggle with history. I think that by allowing students to use art as a way to show off their knowledge, students will flourish. Whether it be through comics or slide decks or graphic collages. Students will be able to display their understanding and knowledge of the topic. They world is not a black and white place with only one way of doing things. Education should be the same.
  • Any other relevant information you’d like to share with your course instructors and classmates.
  • I thoroughly enjoyed this course and all that it had to offer. As a preschool teacher these tech tasks proved to be very useful in my classroom already. I have my students painting and displaying colors. Doing a simon says sort of painting game. Or pulling up Sumo Paint on the computer and allowing them to experiment on how to use it. Giving my preschool class a change to learn how to function a computer, even though they already have a lot of skills on the tablet.

    By allowing them the ability to use the mouse to the computer they are working on their fine motor skills. When my students vocalize how hard it is to select things I let them struggle for a bit. Teaching them problem solving skills. When I don't react to them right away, they then go to their classmates. This builds team bonding. They learn to work together to now solve the problem. It can be as simple as that.

tech task 5



The tool I used was Make Beliefs Comix.
I used it to created a story on science. This tool will help to integrate art within the science curriculum. The students will be instructed to create comics based on chemical compounds. They will have to use the name of the chemical, it's make up and what happens when they mix it with something else.
I really enjoyed this app because it was super easy to use. It will be very easy to explain to the students as well. Each of the tasks has an explanation of how to use it right on the screen. The Students have a lot of options on creating their comics and would really enjoy them.
This also allows the students to print off their comics and color them in themselves then have them hanging around the room or posted online to the classroom blog.
This website has a lot of possibilities in the classroom, in each subject. Because of it's simplicity it could be used in almost all grades. Older students would enjoy it as well because it is such a hands on activity that still requires thought. The integration of creativity and content based knowledge is what makes it perfect for the classroom.

EXTRAS:
This website is perfect for English language learners, as well as students with disabilities. The website has extra tabs at the bottom of the page for teachers and parents alone. They give information on specific important qualities of children and their disabilities. Some of the information is in the form of comics. Some of the comics are in different languages. When you first begin yuo can also choose Spanish or English.

Studio 4


Description: For this project the materials I used was: my sketch pad, a pencil, a clear plastic sheet,a marker, a spray bottle and a piece of paper. This portrait was of a female, young (in her 20's) and showing happiness and surprise. She is white, with reds lip stick, big blue eyes, longer curly brown hair and thick eye lashes. 

Rational: This project is good for the State Standards because it allows students to portray key components such as: physical attributes, emotional conditions and age through visual imagery. Student is then able to use descriptive language to describe their character and be able to better portray their character through colored markers,

Difficulties: Some difficulties you may run into trying to implement this with children would be the success of the traced face. When tracing the sketch onto the plastic sheet with marker students can easily smudge their portrait and ruin the drawing. It could be hard to get the whole photo to copy onto the wet paper (like mine above). Students could also spray the paper with too much water and have their portraits run down their paper.   

Studio three: illustrating a story



Description: the materials I had used to complete this assignment was nothing but construction paper, glue and scissors. I used many different shapes to create the creatures and objects in my story. I used triangles and rectangles the most. They seemed to be the easiest shapes to make and made the base of most of the picture.
I made the scene from the story where the fox was chasing the hen through the fence. This scene is located toward the end of the story. It is right before the hen gets to the coup.

Rational: This project is aimed for grade 2. This project enables students to be able to sequence a story through representations of shapes. Students are able to show the beginning, middle or end of a story though representations of shapes that they were able to create themselves. These objectives for creating the project align with that second grade should be doing with their State Standards.

Potential difficulty: Students may have difficulty cutting out shapes and putting them together to create photos. You will always have that one or two students who are perfectionist and have issues completing the projects or take too long. Students may have difficulty gluing their construction paper into the right spot to create a photo that represents something from the story.

Studio two reflection


Artist Statement:
The artwork: For this piece of art I used oil pastels in many different colors to represent my family. Painting over top of my oil pastels I used green water color. To make the green water color I mixed the yellow and the blue water colors. Those two primary colors mixed together to create a secondary color of green.
The setting: In the setting of the painting I put my 15lb, black, fuzzy cat Poe. Next to him I put my boyfriend of five years, with brown hair, brown eyes and skinny jeans. Then I put myself, having long brownish black hair, blue eyes and red lipstick, on the far right side. Above us I drew the sun and some clouds. Below us I drew a blanket and some grass that we are sitting on. Behind us are a lot of trees and rolling green hills. In between my boyfriend and I, is not only Poe (the cutest cat ever) but a large brown picnic basket full of delicious foods. All these things come out to create a wonderful drawing of a fantastic picnic with my cat and my boyfriend.
Rational: This is appropriate for second graders because of the content language you have to include into the drawing. In second grade students are relearning/reviewing primary and secondary colors. As well as learning how to create pictures that show their knowledge in things such as depth perception: near and far and how to create those. It also shows if students understand how to represent above, below and beside. Lastly, it gets students to thinking, and representing, members of their families which helps them to draw upon their memories and pick key details from them.
Difficulties: Students may get hung up on trying to perfect their photos and never finish the lesson. You may not be able to tell what is in the photo or if the child understands the content language because of how they drew their photo. Family settings are very different for each student, so trying to figure out what to draw and how to draw it may be very difficult for some students. Changing the directions to maybe drawing what you see when you look out the front room window or what you see when you look out the classroom window may help some students to focus more on the assignment at hand.

  • What is the tool that you have chosen? What does it do?
    • GetLoupe.com
    • It takes photos that you upload and make a collage out of them. You can choose up to 150 photos and the shape you desire.
  • What else do you know about the tool?
    • There are many different shapes to chose from. You can make the boarders around the pictures thinner or thicker. 
    • You can also change the background behind the college.
    • You can download the photo and export it to other sites as well.
  • How can you leverage this tool to create integrated art experiences in your classroom?
    • You can use this tool to integrate all subjects.
    • The shapes all follow things that are represented in each subject. They have shapes such as: an atom, a paint brush, a stack of books, google ect.
    • Like this you could give each of your students something to make a collage on and then check each of the photos to make sure that they have the required information.
    • This serves as an easy and artistic way for students to work as a group and do research.
  • Why would you use the tool in the classroom?
    • I would use it because it integrates each subject easily.
    • It brings all students and their families together in the art work. It can be done at home and in school.
  • Could students use this app to create their own digital media artifacts?
    • Yes, they could create a portfolio of their art in sequential order. 
    • They could also print these out and create a study guide that acts as notes for their tests or just for the class in general.
  • What makes it easy to use?
    • All the steps are easy and self explanatory. You get to choose what photos you want or need and all the designs, photos and settings are layed out in front on you on the front page. You never have to go and look for the settings or designs.  
  • What would challenge students?
    • Students would be confused on how to make the photos larger..
    • I myself could not figure that out as well.
    • Students will have to download and export their photos and save them on their desktop because this site does save the photos in a file for you.

Puppet Play

  1. What is the tool that you have chosen? What does it do? 
    1. Sock puppets, It allows the user to create a video using animated sock puppets and specialized back drops.
  2. What else do you know about the tool?
    1. This tool allows you to record your voice and make a short story with it. When you are done recording it will then change your voice to fit the puppet that you chose. You may have multiple puppets or just one. You can also have multiple backdrops. 
  3. How can you leverage this tool to create integrated art experiences in your classroom?
    1. This tool is great for including other subjects into art. You could use math and have the puppets count certain numbers of specific colors and shapes. 
    2. You could have them explain science and what happens with life cycles. 
  4. Why would you use the tool in the classroom?
    1. This tool is a fun way to get every child involved and feel like they are contributing to not only their learning but their peers learning as well.
  5. Could students use this app to create their own digital media artifacts? 
    1. Yes, Students could save this and post it to Youtube or even the school's website. 
    2. You could help them create an account and have them do it with their parents as well as homework.
    3. Groups of students could work together to create a scene in your story with certain criteria you would have to cover. Then as a teacher you could put it all together and create a video over any subject or learning material you chose. 
  6. What makes it easy to use? 
    1. The fact that this app is all hands on and records all at once is helpful. All you have to do is touch the puppet to switch who is talking. You can do the same with the backdrop. Everything is self explanatory and aided by directions from the puppets.
  7. What would challenge students?
    1. The challenging part would be helping the kids make the time long enough. Each clip is only 30 seconds long.
    2. You can save the clips and put them all together as a movie in the end but that is time consuming and you would have to use a different site. The sock puppet app does not allow you to put scenes together to create a video.
