Blended Learning

What is your philosophy on blended learning?

Blended learning is using technology as a set way of learning while using schools and classrooms as well. They work simultaneously together to help create a way of learning that will help to ensure that each child is growing to the best of their ability. Blended learning is definitely.. different, and many people have said that it is hard to plot its effectiveness within the classrooms. I myself believe in it. I think that this type of learning allows the student a kind of independence, while still forcing them to be social with those around them. Many of us have went through that moment where we have an important question to ask the teacher in order to proceed with our work. But the problem is so do the other 20 students in your class, with their hands up, calling the teachers name.
If students are allowed to integrate technology and use it then it puts less pressure on the teacher and the child will be able to receive the answer to their questions in many different ways. Where as the teacher will be able to give that student an answer in words, the internet could show them in diagrams and pictures in a faster manner. Going along with parts of my major, technology is an amazing source in helping with communication. For students with disabilities, technology could make or break their education. Whether you have the child with a hearing impairment, who uses an ipad to talk to other students or to read presentations. Or you have the student who is visually impaired who uses the ipad to listen to the notes or listen to books or even magnify the letters. Technology is helpful. Plus with blended learning you are in a school or classroom setting as well, so you will have that instructor beside the students to guide them and help them in any way that is possible.
I believe cognitively it is a good investment to allow blended learning. I know it can be hard to map out. Like in Educational Technology, it is an online class but we still meet up at times to review and learn how to use the many different features that are offered to us. Or to just come in and ask questions and get the guidance we need. I, personally, have never made it to any of these meetings because they are usually scheduled during other class times. Classes i cannot miss because they are not online. From what I have heard though, they are helpful. Especially the webex videos.

My philosophy

As a teacher in the 21st century I want to integrate technology into my classroom in an everyday setting. I want my students to learn as much as they can. They should understand that there is no cap off for knowledge. You should spend everyday trying to learn as much as you can , in any way you can. I want them to understand that there is more than one way for communication. Using social media sites and certain websites can give each student a chance to make a difference in the world, no matter how old they are. I know my goals will be met through thorough assessments such as summative and formative. Aka testing or continuous observations and quizzes or papers.
My future students should be able to know the basics of a computer. Be able to be confident in their communication skills and be able to be polite and courteous while on the internet. At such a young age i do not expect them to be able to surf the internet or even have a social media account. But they will know how to navigate through apps, pull up word or paint and practice their colors, letters and numbers. Teaching with technology can open so many doors for my students. By allowing them to use the internet, i am allowing them to obtain the knowledge they seek. There are so many new apps and learning games that children can use or play with. It can give students more time to learn because there is no clean up or prep time. It also gives the students freedom to do what they want.
As a teacher i will use technology as best as i can to incorporate each child into the learning. Whether it be with movies, audio or apps, i want each child to learn as much as they can in a fun way. At such a young age, they don't have social media accounts or will they have blogs that they will be updating everyday. So the chances of them writing something that is plagiarizing or unprofessional is slim. If they are educated on the Do's and Don'ts now, when they are older they will not have any problems with it. Technology is such an important part of everyone's life now, that is would be silly to not teach children to use it. At least I could teach them to use it correctly and be able to teach more in the time i am provided.

About Me!

My name is Angelina Miller, I am 20 years old and I am from Akron, Ohio. My major is Early Childhood Education, i want to be a kindergarten teacher. Or maybe even a science teacher. I am in ROTC and plan on being in the army, military intelligence.
I'm the fourth one from the left.

I'm a child at heart and believe that the playground is not just for the young in age.

As a teacher i want to be the loving nurturer to my students. I want to lead by example in being the beat person i can be. I know it sounds corny and almost every teacher candidate says it, but i truly mean it. I want to create crafts, teach the alphabet and read to little children.
I hope to get a certificate in deaf communication. Get a job at Alexander Gram Bell, and work with younger children with hearing disabilities.

Summary of Learning

The website I used for this was storybird. I used this because I wanted to use both pictures and words to describe what i was thinking. Technology is words, it is stories, it is sounds. The great thing about technology is that is can be anything you want it to be.

My biggest take away from educational technology was that you have to use professionalism while on the internet. That there are guidelines and rules to follow not only when you're on social media sites but when you are publishing information on things like a blog. The internet is a source used by millions of people, which means when you post something is only takes a few minutes for a few million people to see and read what you're saying. This can influence jobs you have, people you meet, your social life and sometimes even your academic life. Technology is a great and powerful tool that can help you to be the best you can be or hinder you.
As i have said in many blog posts before this, i plan to incorporate technology into my classroom on a lot of occasions. It can help with science projects, learning history through family trees and animated diagrams. It can better enhance communication for the students with disabilities.
I plan on allowing this source in my classroom, not a lot because I am very big on face-to-face communication and arts and crafts. But enough to better the education level of my students and allow them to grow under the guidance of the internet.
