MP: the final

This is my final post on my major project and everything that i have learned through gaining muscle!
It has definitely been a rough journey.
I learned that building muscles and working out as a college student can be very hard when you have a schedule as busy as mine. And most college students do.
I learned that if you don't eat right or get enough sleep your body and mind suffer too much and make it a lot harder for you to workout and build muscle in a healthy way. It helps to workout with a friend, because if you're anything like me, you're super competitive and want to beat your friends at everything. Yes, that includes working out as well.
The workout themselves were not hard as soon as i learned the correct way of doing them. I thought that since I workout enough and i watch people doing it, that i would have the correct form. I was wrong. Working with professionals and looking up and watching videos on how to do things correctly, i improved a bunch!
I really enjoyed this major project. Not only did i learn how to correctly improve my health and workout but it was something i really loved to do.
I lost 20 lbs and gained muscle.
I now do yoga twice a week along with running 5 miles twice a week and lifting on the off days. I can say that i am completely certain that i will now live a healthier life.

Personal and Professional Habits Related to Technology Use

I created a blog for this class and have really taken a liking to it. It's very open and creative and the rules that were given were not hard to follow or stay within. I know that not many people read this and actually that is perfect for me. I think that I will continue to blog on issues when I can. It may not be 3-4 times a week, like i'm blogging now. But it will be at least once or twice.
I follow many blogs, or i'm subscribed to them i guess you could say. I look for things in blogs like i look for things in twitter accounts. They must follow this criteria:
1. they must be well written
2. be opinionated but have facts to support them
3. pictures. I love pictures
or
4. Be moving. Something about the good in the world and things nice that people or organizations are doing to change the world and bring about the good in it.
I use technology for almost every class that I have. I use springboard for assignments and grades, google docs for my papers and presentations, i'm constantly on google for information about homework or tests. And if i'm not on google i'm on facebook or twitter, updating about the news in the world or simply whats going on in my day. My digital footprint is a sad one. I do not update too often and the accounts that I have are used as a way to keep in touch with family and friends that are far away. I don't seeing it affecting my employment chances in the slightest.
To keep up with the trends of technology i will constantly be trying whats new. Either downloading new apps, updating software or updating my technology i'll do it. I think it is important to stay caught up and understand technology as it grows. It will be easier for you this way rather then waiting and trying to learn everything at once.
As far as collaboration with online documents and presentations. I have done many assignments this way and I must say...I am impartial to this. On one hand it gives a chance for everyone to work together and see what is happening as its happening. On the other hand it can be confusing if everyone is updating at once and changing things while you are too. It takes a lot of communication to work on something as group. But I do like how you don't have to constantly share what you're doing and all you have to do is update from one device and all users have it.
With all this use of technology i do believe that periods of "unplugged" time is needed. Each person needs to take the time to power down and foster their relationships with people in a personal manner..face to face. It is important, especially as aspiring teachers, to develop socially. That means going out and having fun or going out and just being around people. It will help your confidence and growth more then sitting at a computer and/or Ipad.

My philosophy on assessment

When teaching it is very important to understand how your students are developing mentally and emotionally. But most importantly how are they learning and grasping certain information and concepts. It is important to assess your students to find out if what you are teaching is being understood and learned or if its going in one ear and out the other. Assessing your students is not only for them but for you as well. It can tell you what you have to fix and change and what is good in your teaching.

While I was reading one the articles that was given to us, Formative vs. Summative, i thought about if i really believed these worked. And i think they do. Teachers formativly assess students without even thinking about it.  The website is quoted saying, "Formative assessments are on-going assessments, reviews, and observations in a classroom. Teachers use formative assessment to improve instructional methods and student feedback throughout the teaching and learning process" This is used to help foster the growth and learning of children in a classroom setting on a day to day basis. It is needed in order to truly teach.

The other assessment tool that i read about was Summative Assessment. This is used to see if certain academic programs were successful or not. They are not on going and usually have a predetermined time, most of the time its at the end of the year. I think this is a good idea to an extent. If its a test that is given, does it matter how the student does the whole year, if he or she is just going to take a test at the end of the year to determine if the success of something they were in.

Summative assessments usually have higher point values and are valued in high grades. Where the formative is usually small quizzes and papers. I believe they are interlocked. One helps the other, and both are needed.

piktochart

The tool i chose was Piktochart. It makes banners, reports, presentations and infographs. I chose to make a banner for my major project. You can chose from the themes they give you or you can choose to make your own theme.
I choose one of the themes that were offered.
Figuring out how to use this tool was a little hard and some instructions were unclear. To any student that was under grade 6 would probably have a harder time using it then the older students.
I would use this in my classroom to help students in clubs. They would learn how to use the computer better while making posters and banners for other children and teachers. I would assign groups and have them work together to practice team building.
It isn't hard too hard to use and students would really enjoy the creative aspect behind it.
