Studio One Reflection

For studio one: Kindergarten, my class was instructed to draw a familiar room in our house. The catch? We could only use the primary colors. So, after being taught what the primary colors were and how to identify them, as well as saying examples of things that were certain colors we were left to draw our room.
The room I created was my kitchen. I used oil pastels of yellow, red and blue to draw. Having only primary colors was a little difficult and forced me to really think about what color certain things would be.
This studio project is great for kindergarten because they have to be able to identify the primary colors as well as recall and describe familiar places and things. That links to the standards being that they must learn primary colors, explore tools and process of visual art and describe familiar people, places, things and events and provide additional details. Having them draw is a perfect way to assess all learning standards without them knowing.
Areas of difficulty if you were to actually do this with children would be; being able to identify the primary colors or remembering and drawing a room to accuracy (you might not be able to tell what the picture even is or if the child understood the assignment).
